Between Lenses | Silence
I missed participating in this photo challenge, so today, allow me to share with you my take on 'silence', the theme for this month's Between Lenses.
When I found out about this month's theme, I felt quite excited. Silence, for me, is such an interesting concept to work around with. A few years back, I wrote about communicative silence for my undergraduate thesis and read a whole lot of literature related to it. It is just so true that "we cannot not communicate". Even one's silence means something and it may be interpreted in a number of ways. It is interesting really, these differences. Some love it, some hate it. Silence may make or break relationships. Silence can connote negativity, like in the case of a dysfunctional machine. Or positivity, as the practice of meditation leads to calmness and tranquility.
Silence, in my point of view, is beautiful. We need it once in a while. Often, when I am in distress I find silence comforting - it gives me a very much needed break from the chaos of everyday life, it helps me gather my thoughts, it allows me to simply relax and let go of my worries. And in silence, praying comes naturally. Without distractions, it is easier to commune with God and be as honest as possible. Sometimes, when we are overwhelmed by life's challenges all we really need is to pause for a while. I truly believe that there are answers in silence - there is clarity in staying still.
What is silence for you? How does it look like?
