Philippines' Pride

So far, January has been a blast. Last Saturday (Jan. 8) after my Caring Group meeting, I was lucky enough to watch Gary Valenciano and Charice perform live at the Mall of Asia concert ground for the 1@11 event of Joel Cruz' Afficionado Germany Perfume. (My deepest gratitude to my friend, Tin Lozada, for the free tickets). I really had so much fun.

I like Gary V. not only as a performer but as a father, a husband and a man of faith. With no questions asked, I have accepted the fact that he is indeed "Mr. Pure Energy". But, to actually see him perform live is a different scenario altogether. He really performed with so much passion. He sang so well and danced perfectly. You could never tell that he has been in the industry for 27 years because his zest for performing is simply undeniable.

I admire him more because of his zeal in proclaiming God's glory every chance he gets . According to Bro. Obet Cabrillas, Gary V. is one great artist who turns an ordinary event into an occasion of great praise and worship to our Mighty God. That night, at MOA, he sang "Shout for Joy" and "Natutulog Ba ang Diyos" with so much fervor that I thought God must have been smiling up there.

Then came Charice' turn to sing. I am not a great fan but I've always believed in her talent. And seeing her perform that night, makes me so proud of being a Filipino. We are world class. We have the talent to wow the global community. I have heard a lot of criticisms thrown at Charice, like the way she speaks English or how big her face is (no offense) but, to tell you she speaks English well and she is cute. She knows how to connect to her audience and she knows how to make them smile.

Thanks to performers like them, the world gets to see the great talents that Filipinos possess. I am so proud of them and equally proud to be Pinoy.

How about you? Who/What makes you proud to be a Filipino?
