Life Lately Vol. 10

Reading... Fly Away Home by Jennifer Weiner, only to realize that I have finished the book without the closure I hoped or wanted for Lizzie and Diana.

Writing
... only this post. I haven't been writing lately, mostly because I am not in the mood. But I might start on the second installment of my Busan escapade before the day ends. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Listening
... to Run To You by Lasse Lindh.

Watching
... the latest seasons of Scandal and Grey's Anatomy. And re-watching a whole lot of f.r.i.e.n.d.s while doing other tasks at home.

Smelling
... coffee. It's 6pm now but I have a cup of coffee on my desk.

Thinking
...
about selling some of the books and other stuff I have accumulated in recent years because I'm moving to a new place. Interested?

Wishing
...
for a new phone, Asus Zenfone 5 or Oppo mobile.

Loving
...
long weekends and long walks.

Wanting
...
to get rid of menstrual cramps for good.

Needing
...
to start doing Yoga soon.

Feeling
...
hopeful and excited as I pack my possessions once again after three years. Can't wait to be in my new home!

March was a month overflowing with good vibes - triumphs and celebrations.
1/ Good friends, Bros. Don, Jayson and Jestoni, graduated with flying colors from the Ecclesiastical Faculties of the University of Santo Tomas!

2/ Family and friends gathered together for Bro. Junel's Solemn Profession to the Order of Preachers. It was also a day filled with wonderful surprises.

3/ Birthday celebration for me and  Bumbo at work plus Boss' lechon party for his promotion.
4/ Pizza for the team for a job well done!
5/ With Apa, at Jestoni's graduation "party".

6/ (Favorite) Food of the Month - Banapple's Chicken Pie with Potato Salad. Yummy, affordable, good for sharing. What more can you ask for?

7/ Koi pond at Greenbelt. Feeding the Kois relieves stress.

8/ 1st day of March at the International Rice Research Institute with good friends, Gideon and Helen.

Life Lately | Fab Feb

To be honest, the enthusiasm from January kind of have gone low when February rolled in. I don't know if you felt the same, but that was how it was for me. Feb drained me due to numerous school requirements I had to accomplish before the 1st of March. The second semester was nearing its end and it was my fault that I was slacking it off the first few months. (I had no one to blame but myself for having have to cram). Nevertheless, Feb was a fab month for a number of reasons.

1| Honey Calamansi Juice with Seagrass at Cafe Dominic. Got this drink while waiting for my friend, Junel, for a long over due date.

2| Post-birthday dinner for Ate Jo and Neri, and Kuya Jason at Elias, Robinson's Magnolia. You may read my blog entry about it here.

3| Books + a room full of sunlight - my happy place, Powerbooks-Greenbelt.

4| Cafe Latte (my study buddy) at CBTL, Greenbelt 5.

5| Strawberry cake. Would you believe that Junel bakes cakes? And yummy cakes at that. Well, Helen and I got to taste one of his sweet treats on our recent visit to Sto. Domingo.

6| Filipino Laity: Icon of God's Fidelity, a talk by Bro. Michael Angelo Lobrin at Sto. Nino de Paz - Greenbelt Chapel. The Catholic Church declares 2014 as The Year of the Laity. And this year involves encouraging and empowering the Laity to be more active in the profession of our faith not just in words but more so in deeds.

My take away from this talk: "More than our faith in God, let us be empowered by God's faith in us. We are not human "doing", neither are we human "having". We are human "beings". And to be human is to be kind and compassionate."

7| International Rice Research Institute. My first visit this year, not for leisure's sake though. But I had a grand time nonetheless.

8| Anonymous reunited (at least the three of us). In high school it is common to belong to an "exclusive" group - a clique, though not in the negative sense of the word. Not only did I have nine awesome friends back then, I also found such great pals to this day. And I am definitely looking forward to a grand reunion very soon. By the way, our group was called "Anonymous". :D

9| Afternoon scene outside the office. One of those few times that I get to go home before the sun is down. Praying for more afternoons such as this - less hectic.

I hope you all had a Fab Feb, too! Enjoy the weekend, friends! I will. :)

 photo index_zps4b0b82b5.png

The first month of 2014 is over. After this, I'm sure the rest of the months will just whisk by.

Since the year started, I have made sure that I "live each day with a purpose". I read somewhere that you know you're getting older when you think about productivity - making sure that you won't let a day pass idly by. That a day can't be an ordinary day, it shouldn't be an ordinary day. Whether I keep doing the same things five days a week, I try to keep in mind that those things mean something for my future and for someone else's. I love January because it feels like starting anew - that it is a good time to start a good habit.
I particularly enjoy my weekends, because I get to do things out of my usual routine. I get to go to a different place, meet new people and bond with friends. The collage above is what my January looked like.

1// New recipe! I've cooked tuna carbonara a couple of times this month. It's perfect for my taste - creamy, cheesy, savory.

2// Daily essentials - planner and post-its. I've been diligently filling out the pages of my planner from day 1. I've also used tiny post-its to highlight important things/learning/events/decisions/achievements.This allows me to organize my thoughts, prioritize things-to-do and document important (and inspiring) life events.

3// Feast! I spent the first Thursday of the year at the Makati Feast and I am glad I did. :) It was so nice to sing praises for the Lord, as well as to pray and believe that this is the best year ever. That tons of blessings are on the way.

4// Launch of The Hub Bar and Cafe. The first blogger event I've ever attended. It was a fun and delightful experience.

5// Rizal Park. Loved that one afternoon at the park. I took a few pictures and just walked around.

6// Children Without Borders. Last Saturday, I was able to go to Payatas in an outreach activity with the children of an organization called Children Without Borders. My office mates and I prepared a short story-telling activity for them and of course some games and snacks. The kids were really happy; you could see the sparkles in their eyes.

7// Healthy eating. One of my preferred late-night snacks.

8// Cottolengo Filipino. My 5th visit to Cottolengo Filipino was as moving and as inspiring as the first. It was great to see that the kids have grown healthy and strong and as jovial as ever. I was also given a chance to share about my reflections and experience with this special kids in a 30-minute session with the members of Mukha-Ad's batch 24.

9// Reunion. After more than four years after college, I met my former housemates and college friends once again. We had a great time over lunch - shared delicious dishes, stories and gifts. Plus, little Cara was with us, giving us more reasons to be incredibly grateful for that "once in a blue moon" moment.

How about you friends, how's life lately?

By the way, happy Chinese New Year! :)

These are not the latest pictures. But as far as this blog is concerned, this has been life lately.

1/ That's Cara on her first visit to my workplace. Bubbly as ever.
2/ One Saturday afternoon re-packing relief goods for survivors of Typhoon Haiyan.
3/ My studious sister. Just taken last night on one of her late-night study sessions (with me, on the side, trying to study for my classes too).
4/ A slice of chocnut cheesecake at Bannaple, which I mistakenly ordered because I thought I read the label as coconut oreo cheesecake. :(
5/ Healthy midnight snack.
6/ I do jog. Once in a bluemoon. haha
7/ My mother and my sister, one Sunday morning, on mom's recent visit.
8/ Had my hair cut! To this day, I still think it was a bad idea to cut my hair that/this short.
9/ Definitely the favorite dessert of the girls/women in the family. A sweet treat for myself and my family for a great performance at work this year! :)

home alone :: thoughts on living solo

independent living is serious business. and at 24, i've got my first taste of it. for so long, i've shared houses with a couple of friends and i must say i had a grand time. it was always nice to go home to a place with such a welcoming atmosphere. i particularly love my college housemates. i would come home tired and battered after a day in school and at work but i always found their presence refreshing. i would feel not so exhausted after all. the endless chat and laughter did the trick. i miss it. sharing a home with my higschool friends was also amazing. we had the same values, interests and our characters greatly complemented. each ordinary day at home was always time well-spent. always relaxing. i miss that kind of company too.

but then, we can't possibly stick together for life. people grow, they chase after their own destinies, they walk their own paths. i've been contemplating about living solo for such a long time. and for a while i thought it is beyond my means. it's still practical to share a place with another person or two. and yet, i have craved for a bit more freedom to do things my way. to feel lazy whenever i want to. to behave in my most natural self. to simply be free without ever having to worry what others might say. to feel at home.

for weeks, the idea came more like a blur. it wasn't possible. i was about to give up. but then, my prayers were answered and i found a home. with the generosity of a friend, i was able to find a place for myself in such an affordable rate. i couldn't be thankful enough! my worries all disappeared and i started to get so excited at the thought of it.

so here i am, trying life on my own. it's been barely a week and yet i am starting to feel the good and the bad of living alone. yes of course, it's got the good and the bad just like all other things and circumstances. but i know for a fact that i'll get used to it. for now, i am ecstatic at the thought of accepting guests, having family members around for a couple of weeks, unexpected visits.

i'd rather focus on the joy and see where it leads me. :)
