A lot of things have happened over the weekend in my own small world. I was caught up in various activities, preparations for the holidays and other things to do that I am quite left out with what's going on in the larger world. Thanks to social networking sites, I was once more back to reality came Monday.

By now, everyone is already aware of the devastation that Typhoon Sendong caused in Northern Mindanao specifically in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan. Mindanao is not really a route for tropical cyclones for the longest time and so people there might have been too shocked at the intensity of the said recent calamity. Many families have lost homes, properties and loved ones. And as what I heard from the news, a large part of CDO does not currently have a potable source of water.

In the midst of this calamity, it is nice to see numerous government agencies, private institutions and even ordinary citizens take action.

In our own little ways, we can do something to extend help. We have been in similar situations before and the Filipino people have always proven how generous we are in giving aid and assistance to those who are in dire need.

I know some people who have chosen to ask friends to sacrifice their gifts this Christmas and donate the money to those who are affected by Typhoon Sendong in Mindanao instead. After all we are celebrating a season of sharing.

Here are some ways to extend help:

1.) This, probably the easiest and most convenient.
Donate via SMS, text RED<space>AMOUNT to 2899 (Globe) or 4143 (Smart).

You can donate the following denominations:
Globe: 5, 25, 100, 300, 500 or 1000
Smart: 10, 25, 50, 100, 300, 500 or 1000

To all our Kababayans abroad who have roaming phones, please extend some help through texting :) A small amount can be of great help.

2.) Check out this post from Patty Laurel's blog to find out how to send your donations in kind through the DREAM TEAM (Disaster REsponse And Management Team) of Ateneo. As well as how to donate cash.

3.) Friends, if you are near Taguig, Pasig and Pasay, our company is having a Donation Campaign for Typhoon Sendong Victims. You can Donate new or old, but still serviceable clothes, blankets, slippers and other goods. This campaign will last until the first week of January. The first batch of donations will be sent to CDO and Iligan on the 23rd (Friday) through LBC.

4.) Let us offer prayers for those who died and for the families who have lost their loved ones that they may be given strength to go on with life and to be able to rebuild their homes and dreams.
